Akwa Ibom First Lady designate attends Ooni of Ife ceremony, empowers young women through GIFA

Lady Helen Eno Obareki, First Lady Designate of Akwa Ibom State, was among a delegation of Nigerian Governors’ Spouses led by Prof. Olufolake Abdulrasaq, Chairperson of the Nigerian Governors Spouses Forum, to witness the installation of Senator Oluremi Tinubu as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. The historic event, held in Ile-Ife on Sunday, was part of celebrations marking the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni and drew prominent dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former First Lady Dr. Patience Jonathan, the wife of the Vice President, and state governors.

The award recognizes Senator Tinubu’s life of service, humility, and unwavering commitment to national development through her Renewed Hope Initiative, which continues to support millions of Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In a related engagement, Lady Eno Obareki encouraged young women graduating from an entrepreneurial training programme under her Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) to leverage the skills acquired to improve their lives, support their families, and contribute positively to society. The intensive two-month training programme, held at locations on Ekpenyong and Atakpo Streets in Uyo, focused on wig-making and pastries.

Graduates of the programme received certificates and were urged to act as ambassadors of GIFA, using their skills to create sustainable livelihoods. At the wig-making centre, beneficiaries showcased their creations, while the pastries trainees displayed cakes, doughnuts, chin-chin, meat pies, banana bread, and other baked goods. Participants pledged to use social media platforms to market their products and maintain accountability in their businesses.

Trainers at the programme, Mrs. Ruth Nkemjika of African Queen Dressing Salon and Miss Ruth David of Ruthy Cakes and More, expressed appreciation to Lady Eno Obareki for providing the opportunity and training resources, promising continued support for the growth of the beneficiaries. Tailoring trainees are still undergoing a six-month training programme as part of the ongoing empowerment initiatives.

Lady Eno Obareki’s engagements highlight her commitment to youth empowerment and her role in fostering skills development and entrepreneurship among women in Akwa Ibom State.
