African leaders gather in Paris for annual peace forum

Several African heads of state joined world leaders in Paris for the 2025 Paris Peace Forum, focusing on conflict prevention, climate cooperation, and equitable development financing.

Among the African leaders in attendance were President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, William Ruto of Kenya, and Macky Sall of Senegal. French President Emmanuel Macron hosted the forum, calling for “a renewed multilateralism built on trust and inclusion.”

Key sessions discussed peacekeeping reforms, Africa’s debt restructuring, and international responses to rising coups on the continent. Nigeria’s delegation emphasised the need for fair access to climate finance and security assistance to combat terrorism in the Sahel.

The event also saw the signing of new partnership frameworks between the African Union and European institutions to support green transition projects and post-conflict reconstruction.

Observers noted that the forum took place amid global instability, with ongoing wars in Sudan, Ukraine, and the Middle East overshadowing calls for collective diplomacy.
