Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno commissions 62-Bed Ukanafun General Hospital

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has inaugurated a new 62-bed General Hospital in Ukanafun Local Government Area, reviving a facility abandoned for 16 years and upgrading it into a modern secondary healthcare centre. The project also includes 2.2km of access and internal roads.

Speaking at Ikot Akpan Nkuk, Governor Eno said the hospital’s completion reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering abandoned projects that directly benefit communities. He praised residents for their unity and noted that healthcare development should rise above politics.

The Governor directed the Health Commissioner to install an MRI machine and a dialysis unit in the hospital within 90 days, stressing that the equipment will save residents from travelling to Uyo for essential care. He added that kidney-related illnesses are on the rise, making such facilities urgent.

Governor Eno reaffirmed rural development as a key pillar of the ARISE Agenda, highlighting ongoing construction of 31 cottage hospitals and 31 model primary schools across the state. He also approved work on the 18.96km Ikot Ibritam–Mbiaso–Inen Ekefe–Ikot Akpan Afaha Road.

He urged local youths to safeguard the new facility and charged the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Dan Ekerette Dan, with ensuring quality service and proper maintenance. The Governor also acknowledged contributions from Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, who provided solar lights and supported other health centre upgrades.

The event also featured Governor Eno’s installation as Ette Nsongidem Ukanafun by the Traditional Rulers Council. Senior government officials, community leaders, and residents attended the ceremony.
