China has announced a sweeping elimination of tariffs on exports from 53 African countries, in a move aimed at promoting trade, industrial growth, and diversified economic relations with the continent .
The free trade initiative will cover both least-developed and middle-income nations, including Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, and Morocco. To support more vulnerable economies like Tanzania and Mali, China will provide additional assistance in marketing and capacity building .
Analysts say this policy shift reflects China’s broader strategy of reshaping its global trade partnerships, addressing a $62 billion trade imbalance, and reinforcing its position as Africa’s largest economic ally .
