Some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, have hailed the recent Federal High Court judgment that upheld constitutional order in the management of the party’s affairs.
The group, led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, described the ruling as a landmark decision that restores discipline, fairness, and internal democracy within the party.
In a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held at Wike’s residence in Abuja and read by former Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the group commended the judiciary for what it termed “its courage to uphold truth over impunity.”
According to the communiqué, the court’s ruling reaffirmed the supremacy of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the PDP Constitution in party administration. The court also conclusively affirmed Chief Dan Osi Orbih as the authentic National Vice Chairman (South-South) while declaring the purported appointment of Chief Emmanuel Ogidi null and void.
Those in attendance included former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Ikpeazu (Abia); PDP National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu; former FCT senator, Philip Aduda; Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Micah Jiba; and members of the Board of Trustees such as Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, among others.
The group also praised the court for upholding the expulsion of Ali Odefa, saying the decision had “restored integrity and discipline in the party’s leadership.” They further noted that all official correspondence to INEC must be jointly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary, reaffirming the latter as the principal signatory of the party’s communications.
The communiqué added that no valid PDP national convention can be convened until all legal and constitutional processes are fully observed, and described the court’s intervention as “a patriotic act to safeguard democracy, not interference in internal affairs.”
Reaffirming their loyalty to the judgment, the group stated: “We abide by this decision in its entirety. We commend and reaffirm our faith in the judiciary. Our doors remain open to genuine members for reconciliation and rebuilding of our great party.”
