Tinubu, Trump to meet over alleged Christian killings in Nigeria

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has revealed that the Nigerian leader will soon meet with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss recent allegations of mass killings of Christians in Nigeria.

In a statement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Bwala said the meeting — to hold “in the coming days” — will address concerns raised by President Trump, who had earlier designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious persecution.

Bwala said both leaders share a common commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that the Tinubu administration is determined to protect all Nigerians regardless of faith.

“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump share a strong interest in fighting insurgency and terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote. “Their forthcoming meeting will clarify the realities of Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts and address misunderstandings about faith-based attacks.”

He noted that President Trump’s earlier support for Nigeria — including approval for the sale of military hardware during his first tenure — had helped strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture. “President Tinubu has effectively utilised those opportunities with significant results in the ongoing war against terror,” he added.

Bwala maintained that the engagement between both leaders would help clarify the perception that Nigerian terrorists target only Christians, asserting that “the two presidents will resolve any differences in perspective either in the State House or White House.”
