Dangote Cement Plc has significantly increased its bursary support for students from host communities around its Gboko plant, raising the scholarship fund from ₦10 million to nearly ₦30 million for the 2025 academic year.
The Plant Director, Engr. Abhijit Dutta, disclosed at a ceremony in Gboko that the expanded fund will support approximately 230 students from six host communities, including Mbayion, Mbatur, Mbazembe and Pass Brothers. The move reflects the company’s commitment to education and human capital development as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Community Development Agreement (CDA) obligations.
Dangote Cement’s head of social performance, Dr. Johnson Kor, described the scholarship increase as part of the firm’s broader vision to invest in equity, inclusiveness and long-term community progress. He noted that beneficiaries span multiple local districts and are expected to use the support for academic purposes, reinforcing the company’s belief that community growth and business success are mutually reinforcing.
The scholarship presentation also featured the graduation of participants in a youth skill-acquisition programme supervised by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), further demonstrating the company’s holistic approach to socioeconomic development in its host areas.
Engr. Dutta reaffirmed Dangote Cement’s intention to sustain and expand education and livelihood interventions, citing a philosophy that long-term CSR initiatives create lasting benefits for communities and contribute to local stability and prosperity.
