Davido Drops Explosive Osun Election Claim: ‘Akpabio Asked Me to Delete My Tweet’

Afrobeats superstar Davido has made a fresh revelation about the tense moments surrounding the Osun governorship election, claiming Senate President Godswill Akpabio contacted him and asked him to delete a social media post he had made during the collation of results.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the allegation while speaking about the August 15 governorship election on News Central.

The singer was a vocal supporter of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who secured re-election after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Davido Raises Alarm During Result Collation

Davido said tension began to build when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allegedly stopped uploading results for several hours during the collation process.

According to him, results from about 3,700 polling units had initially been uploaded at regular intervals before the process suddenly stopped after results from roughly 3,200 units had been uploaded.

The development, he said, raised concerns because his uncle was leading by more than 60,000 votes.

Davido claimed he became convinced that there could be an attempt to manipulate the election outcome.

‘They Asked Me to Delete the Tweet’

During the tense period, Davido posted on social media alleging that Akpabio had contacted the collation centre and called for the suspension of the result collation.

The singer now claims that the post triggered calls from influential figures who wanted him to take it down.

According to Davido, Akpabio contacted him and asked him to delete the tweet.

He said he refused, insisting that he would not remove the post until INEC officially announced the final result.

Davido also claimed that billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him during the episode.

Davido Says Voters Fought to Protect Their Votes

The singer further alleged that tensions at some polling locations became so high that residents confronted individuals suspected of trying to disrupt the voting process.

He said the reaction demonstrated that many Osun voters were no longer willing to stand by while their votes were allegedly threatened.

Davido argued that the election should send a message to political leaders that citizens would support officials they believed had worked for them.

Adeleke Emerges Winner

INEC declared Ademola Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes, securing another term as governor of Osun State.

Davido described the victory as evidence that voters could still determine electoral outcomes despite political influence and financial power.

He also warned that allowing violence and money to dictate elections could have serious consequences for Nigeria’s democracy.

Davido’s War of Words With APC Leaders

Davido’s involvement in the election went beyond campaign appearances for his uncle.

The singer repeatedly clashed with APC figures who campaigned against Adeleke, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

After AbdulRazaq urged Osun voters to support Oyebamiji, Davido questioned what the governor’s access to the federal government had achieved for Kwara State, particularly regarding insecurity.

He also engaged in a public dispute with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo following comments about Adeleke’s dancing.

Before election day, Davido had joined his uncle on the campaign trail and participated in a “Vote, Not Fight” campaign in Osogbo, where he called for a peaceful and credible election.

Allegation Adds New Twist to Osun Election

Davido’s latest claim has added another dramatic dimension to an election that attracted national attention.

The singer’s high-profile involvement also demonstrates the growing influence of celebrities and social media personalities in Nigerian politics.

However, the claim that Akpabio asked Davido to delete the tweet remains an allegation from the singer and has not been independently confirmed in the information provided.

Any response from Akpabio or other individuals mentioned could provide further clarity on the events surrounding the disputed period of result collation.
