DSS Urges Court to Reject Sowore’s No-Case Submission

DSS
The Department of State Services (DSS) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a no-case submission filed by activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore is standing trial over alleged false and cyber-related statements made against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

DSS counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Akinlolu Kehinde, told Justice Mohammed Umar that the prosecution has established a prima facie case through its witnesses and evidence, and therefore urged the court to compel the defendant to enter his defence.

He argued that the DSS had responded to the no-case application and maintained that the evidence presented links Sowore to the charges.

However, defence counsel, Abubakar, argued that the prosecution failed to establish any direct link between Sowore and the alleged offence, insisting that no prima facie case was made.

He also claimed that key witnesses were not called, which he said was fatal to the prosecution’s case, and urged the court to discharge and acquit his client.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, stems from allegations that Sowore referred to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “criminal” in posts on his social media platforms.

Sowore, who was re-arraigned on a two-count amended charge, pleaded not guilty.
Justice Umar has adjourned the matter to May 8 for ruling on the no-case submission.
