Secondary schools in Edo and Delta States have showcased outstanding performance at the 2025 edition of the PEARLs Quiz Competition, organised by Seplat Energy Plc in partnership with NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NEPL).
In a high-stakes finale held in Asaba, Pioneer Education Centre, Benin (Edo State) emerged first, bagging N10 million to upgrade its ICT centre. Second place went to Notre Dame College, Ozoro (Delta State) with N5 million, while Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Benin (Edo) claimed third and N3 million. A consolation prize went to Ogini Model College, Ogharefe-Oghara (Delta).
The event also featured a STEAM Innovation Challenge in which students demonstrated inventive projects in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Hollywood International School, Asaba (Delta) secured first in the STEAM category with N1 million prize, while Pioneer Education Centre (Edo) received N500,000 and Women Affairs Secondary School, Asaba (Delta) won N250,000.
Representatives of Seplat Energy and NEPL expressed their congratulation to the winners and praised the state governments of Edo and Delta for providing a conducive environment for the educational competition. The initiative is part of the organisations’ flagship CSR efforts aimed at promoting academic excellence, critical thinking and leadership among youth in oil- and gas-producing communities.
Officials from both states lauded the students for their performance and urged them to build on the momentum. Commissioner for Education in Edo State, Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu (represented), described the victory as a validation that educational transformation, powered by public-private partnerships, can yield national prospects for the students.
