Emir Sanusi II secures Direct Entry Admission to study Common Law at North-West University

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has secured a direct entry admission into the Common Law and Sharia LL.B programme at North-West University, Kano, signalling a new chapter in his academic pursuits.

North-West University formally communicated the admission to the Emir in a letter dated January 12, 2026, confirming that after evaluation, he met the requirements for special academic consideration and was placed directly into the 200 level of the Faculty of Law for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Institutional officials noted the approval reflects not only adherence to academic standards but also the Emir’s robust educational background. Sanusi II holds multiple qualifications, including advanced degrees in economics, Islamic finance, and public policy, and recently completed a doctoral degree in Islamic law from a London university.

The university stressed that the admission is conditional on compliance with its regulations as set out in the student handbook, requiring the Emir to finalise registration with key academic units including the registrar’s office, faculty, bursary, library, and student affairs.

Observers say the development reinforces lifelong learning among Nigeria’s traditional leadership and underscores the expanding role of higher education within public leadership circles.
