Final day for Guinea Presidential Candidacies as ruling junta prepares transition Calendar

Monday November 3rd marks the final day for the filing of presidential candidacies in Guinea’s forthcoming election window, setting the stage for a tightly watched selection process as the country’s transitional authorities seek to return the nation to civilian rule. The deadline was confirmed by the national electoral body amid preparations for vetting and publication of a final list of aspirants.

The notification follows a period of political uncertainty since the 2021 coup, with the ruling junta proposing a timetable for elections as part of a transition to constitutional governance. Potential candidates and political groups moved to register before the deadline as stakeholders urged a transparent process that could restore public confidence.

Election authorities said they would review submissions to ensure aspirants meet legal eligibility criteria and that a subsequent period would be allotted for challenges and verification. Observers called for clarity on the roadmap and stressed that an inclusive process — with guarantees for campaigning, security and impartial vetting — will be critical to credibility.

The unfolding timetable will be closely watched by regional bodies including ECOWAS and the African Union, which have repeatedly urged a speedy and credible return to civilian rule in Guinea.
