First Lady calls for collective effort to protect Children from Sexual Abuse

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to take collective responsibility in protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse. She made the call in Abuja on Tuesday during the 2025 World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

This year’s theme, “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making,” underscores the need for data-driven strategies to safeguard vulnerable children.

Tinubu emphasised that parents, communities, and institutions must prioritise child safety and work together to prevent abuse. “It demands informed action, guided by accurate data, research, and sound policies. May God protect all our children,” she said.

The day, observed globally every November 18, was created by the Council of Europe in 2015 and gained UN recognition in 2022 to raise awareness, promote understanding, and support survivors of child sexual abuse.
