Gov. Alex Otti Meets Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto, Pushes for Peace and Pathway to Release

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has paid a private visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Facility. The meeting, confirmed by both the governor’s media office and Kanu’s lead counsel, was centred on discussions aimed at strengthening peace and improving security across the South-East region.

During the visit, Governor Otti reassured Kanu of ongoing efforts to secure his release, emphasizing that the process is being handled through administrative and diplomatic channels. He also encouraged Kanu to remain calm and steadfast as conversations continue behind the scenes.

The visit marks a significant step, as Otti becomes one of the few sitting governors to personally meet with the IPOB leader since his detention. Many observers view the engagement as a symbolic move toward exploring political solutions to longstanding tensions in the region.
