Governor Umo Eno has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and merit-based recruitment as he inspected a newly established Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Auditorium, Uyo.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, the Governor said the initiative aims to modernize civil service recruitment processes and eliminate favoritism and “godfatherism.”
“The civil service is the engine room of governance. If we don’t get it right, governance will never be right,” he emphasized. “We are moving toward a merit-driven system where competence, not connection, determines entry into the workforce.”
Governor Eno explained that the CBT approach aligns with global best practices and the digital transformation agenda of his government, ensuring that candidates are evaluated fairly and efficiently.
The Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, who accompanied the Governor, disclosed that the centre has the capacity to test over 2,000 applicants daily in batches of 400.
Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, announced that recruitment examinations will begin within ten days, assuring applicants that the process would be transparent and merit-driven.
