The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has donated ten Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, Irrua Area Command, as part of a renewed drive to strengthen security operations across Edo Central Senatorial District.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Irrua, Governor Okpebholo said the gesture underscores his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
“It is not just because we have bought vehicles for the police; it is because of the concern of our people in terms of security and safety,” Okpebholo said. He lauded the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for deploying the Mobile Police (MOPOL) 82 Squadron to Uromi — a move he described as “very dear” to the people of Edo Central.
The governor noted that the provision of logistics and operational support is essential to improving police mobility, rapid response, and intelligence-driven operations. “The state cannot afford to leave the police without equipment and utility vehicles to reach locations where something is happening,” he added.
Okpebholo reaffirmed that his administration will continue to strengthen the synergy between the state government and security agencies to create a safer environment for investment and community life.
Senior police officers present at the event commended the governor for his proactive support, pledging to intensify security patrols and collaboration with local vigilante groups to curb crime across the region.
