In a sweeping administrative reform, Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the restructuring of Edo State’s ministries, increasing the number to 28 portfolios. The move aims to enhance efficiency, improve coordination, and align state government functions with the SHINE Agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The restructuring includes the creation of new ministries and revival of some that were defunct. Among the portfolio changes are Ministries for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy; Mining; Information and Strategy; Business, Trade and Investment; Agriculture and Food Security; Environment and Sustainability; Power; Oil and Gas Resources; and Public Security and Safety, among others.
Several commissioners have been appointed to head the new and expanded ministries. For example, Dr. Felix Ehiguese Akhabue heads Works; Hon. Andrew Ijegbai oversees Mining; Prince Kassim Afegbua is in charge of Information and Strategy; Hon. Paul Nosayaba Ohonbamu now leads Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Omoh Anabor is assigned to Business, Trade and Investment; and Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponwosa to Livestock Development.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, this expansion is part of efforts to ensure that government is better structured to deliver across all sectors and to ensure clearer responsibility and oversight.
