Governor Monday Okpebholo has officially sacked Hon. Samson Osagie as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. The move came during a minor cabinet reshuffle when the new set of 19 commissioners was sworn in on October 14, 2025. Prof. Roland Otaru, SAN, has been named as Osagie’s replacement. Â
Osagie had been among the earliest appointees when Governor Okpebholo assumed office. His suspension earlier in the year over allegations of financial misconduct was followed by a probe which, in March, cleared him of wrongdoing. Despite this, his name was notably absent from the list of newly sworn-in commissioners, signaling his removal. Â
No official explanation has been given for the sack. However, observers note that the change aligns with broader administrative realignments — including the creation of new ministries and portfolios — suggesting a reshuffle driven by Okpebholo’s strategic governance agenda. Â
