Governor Okpebholo sacks Edo Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice

Governor Monday Okpebholo has officially sacked Hon. Samson Osagie as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. The move came during a minor cabinet reshuffle when the new set of 19 commissioners was sworn in on October 14, 2025. Prof. Roland Otaru, SAN, has been named as Osagie’s replacement.

Osagie had been among the earliest appointees when Governor Okpebholo assumed office. His suspension earlier in the year over allegations of financial misconduct was followed by a probe which, in March, cleared him of wrongdoing. Despite this, his name was notably absent from the list of newly sworn-in commissioners, signaling his removal.

No official explanation has been given for the sack. However, observers note that the change aligns with broader administrative realignments — including the creation of new ministries and portfolios — suggesting a reshuffle driven by Okpebholo’s strategic governance agenda.
