A coalition of human rights organizations, community groups, and legal advocates have renewed public demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, arguing that his prolonged detention without final resolution undermines Nigeria’s commitment to justice, human rights, and constitutional safeguards.
In a press release, the coalition asserted that Kanu’s case should not be subject to indefinite incarceration, and that all legal avenues — bail, appeals, judicial review — must be respected and expedited. They decried the use of his detention as a political bargaining chip, which they said erodes public confidence in the judiciary and federal institutions.
The coalition urged the presidency, judiciary, and security agencies to allow Kanu’s lawyers to exercise full rights of defense without interference, to expedite pending court matters, and to prioritize national reconciliation over sectional politics.
They further appealed to international and regional human rights bodies to monitor his case, offer technical support where needed, and encourage Nigeria to uphold the rule of law in politically sensitive matters.
