Gov. Umo eno applauds house member for exemplary balance of public service and family life

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has praised Rt. Hon. Precious Selong, member representing Urue Offong/Oruko State Constituency, for her remarkable ability to balance political leadership with marital responsibilities describing her as a model of the modern African woman.

The Governor made the remarks during the 25th wedding anniversary thanksgiving of Rt. Hon. Selong and her husband, Elder Selong Edem, held at Methodist Church Nigeria, 67 Udo Umana Street, Uyo.

Governor Eno emphasized that Selong’s commitment to both her home and her political career sets an important example for women in public life. He noted that while public office can challenge domestic stability, Mrs Selong has demonstrated discipline, humility, and intentionality in sustaining her home while growing her political profile.

He thanked God for sustaining their marriage over the past 25 years and celebrated the couple’s grown children as evidence of a fruitful union. He also expressed gratitude to the Methodist Church for its unwavering support over the years, especially during his electioneering campaign, promising to continue serving the state with transparency and accountability.

Addressing broader cultural and security concerns, Governor Eno announced a statewide ban on masquerade displays, citing increasing incidents of harassment, extortion, and public disturbance. He directed security agencies to strictly enforce the order, emphasizing that Akwa Ibom’s identity as a Christian state must be upheld.

As part of Christmas measures, he directed the Accountant General to ensure that the 13th-month salary popularly known as Eno-mber is paid to civil servants before December 20, 2025. He also announced that rice distributions would commence across all villages through the local governments.

Preaching on “Two Are Better Than One” from Ecclesiastes 4:11–14, the Archbishop of Uyo Diocese, His Grace Most Rev. John E. Koko-Bassey, extolled the couple’s example, describing their union as grounded, purposeful, and spiritually anchored.

In her remarks, Rt. Hon. Selong expressed deep gratitude to the Governor and the state government for honouring her family and reaffirmed her unwavering support for the administration beyond 2027.
