Hundreds protest in Spain in support of Christians Kidnapped in Nigeria

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Nigerian embassy in Madrid on Saturday November 29th to press for action on behalf of Christians reportedly kidnapped or attacked in Nigeria.

The demonstration was triggered by a mass abduction last week, when more than 250 students were kidnapped from a Catholic school in northern Nigeria.

At the protest, leaders and activists including the president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Spain demanded urgent intervention from international aid organisations and foreign governments to help secure the release of the abductees and protect at‑risk Christian communities at home.

Security analysts say these kidnappings and church attacks stem from Nigeria’s broader insecurity: armed gangs are increasingly targeting schools and religious communities, often viewing them as soft, poorly guarded targets.

The protest in Madrid signals growing global concern including among diaspora communities over religious‑based violence in Nigeria, and underscores calls for stronger protection, transparent investigations, and international solidarity.
