Traditional rulers from the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District have formally endorsed the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced at a grand ceremony held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Ikot Ekpene Sports Stadium. The traditional rulers stated that the trio have delivered commendable performance in their respective offices and therefore deserve to be returned to office for a second term.

The event drew a large gathering of political leaders and stakeholders from across Akwa Ibom State. Key attendees included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno, Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, members of the National Assembly, members of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, and traditional rulers from across the state.

Religious leaders and other dignitaries also attended the ceremony, which was described as a major show of support for the trio’s leadership and developmental achievements.

The traditional rulers cited the leaders’ contributions to governance, development projects, and stability as reasons for the endorsement. They emphasized that the decision was based on the performance record of the leaders and the need for continuity to sustain the progress achieved.

The endorsement is expected to strengthen the political positioning of the Tinubu administration, the Senate President, and Governor Eno within the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers noted that the ceremony could influence voter sentiment in the district, given the influence of traditional institutions in mobilizing grassroots support.

The event also highlighted the unity among key political stakeholders in the state, with the presence of government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

The ceremony concluded with plans for further political activities and campaigns leading to the 2027 general elections. More details on the endorsement and the district’s political strategy are expected to be released in subsequent reports.
