Ivory Coast Incumbent Outtara Wins Landside Election Victory

Alassane Ouattara has been declared the winner of Ivory Coast’s presidential election, securing a fourth term with approximately 89.77 percent of the vote, according to provisional results from the country’s electoral commission.

Ouattara, 83, faced weakened opposition after prominent challengers like Laurent Gbagbo and Tidjane Thiam were barred from running. Among those on the ballot, Jean-Louis Billon and Simone Gbagbo garnered just 3 percent and 2.4 percent respectively before conceding.

Voter turnout hovered around 50 percent, reflecting low engagement, particularly in urban centres.   Observers have flagged concerns over the fairness and inclusivity of the process, citing disqualifications, pre-election arrests, and heavy security presence as contributing to a constrained political environment.

Ouattara, who first assumed power in 2011, made economic development and political stability the central themes of his campaign. Many see this victory as consolidating his influence in the region while raising debates about generational transition and internal dissent.
