The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man in Ile-Oluji over alleged possession of suspected human remains and the reported theft of several household and farm items.
The arrest has drawn attention within the community, with police authorities confirming that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Arrest by Detectives
According to police authorities, the suspect was apprehended by detectives attached to the Ondo State Police Command following allegations that he unlawfully removed a number of valuable items said to belong to his father, identified as Kehinde Awomehinde.
The reported items allegedly taken include:
- Three motorcycles
- Nine goats
- Quantities of palm oil
- Four Android phones
- Two gas cylinders
- Gold items
- Rugs
Police said the allegations prompted immediate action, leading to the suspect’s arrest in Ile-Oluji.
Human Remains Allegation
Beyond the reported theft, the case has generated wider public concern because of allegations involving the possession of suspected human remains.
Authorities have not yet released detailed forensic findings regarding the remains, but police confirmed that the matter forms a key part of the ongoing investigation.
Security officials are expected to carry out further examinations and gather evidence to determine the nature and origin of the materials allegedly recovered.
Police Confirm Investigation
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest and said preliminary investigations suggest that one of the rugs allegedly taken had already been sold.
According to him, detectives are tracing the movement of the reported stolen property and working to recover any missing items.
Jimoh noted that investigators are also examining statements made by the suspect and any other persons connected to the case.
Commissioner Orders Thorough Probe
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, has reportedly directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated.
Police authorities said the directive is intended to ensure that all allegations are properly examined and that anyone found culpable is made to face the law.
The command stressed that investigations would cover both the alleged theft and the more serious claims involving suspected human remains.
Possible Prosecution
Jimoh stated that the suspect has already made statements to investigators.
He added that once investigations are concluded, the suspect would be charged to court if evidence establishes criminal offences against him.
This means the final legal outcome will depend on the findings of investigators and the strength of evidence presented by the prosecution.
Public Reassurance
The police command used the opportunity to reassure residents of Ile-Oluji and other parts of Ondo State of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property.
Authorities urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, criminal behaviour, or security concerns to the nearest police station.
Police said community cooperation remains essential in preventing crime and improving safety across the state.
Community Concern
The case has reportedly sparked concern among residents due to the combination of alleged theft and the disturbing claims involving suspected human remains.
Incidents of this nature often create anxiety within communities, especially where family disputes and criminal allegations intersect.
Observers say swift and transparent investigation will be important in restoring calm and ensuring that facts are clearly established.
Importance of Due Process
Legal experts note that while allegations may be serious, suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.
This means:
- Proper police investigation
- Collection of admissible evidence
- Fair hearing in court
- Presumption of innocence until proven guilty
Authorities are therefore expected to handle the matter carefully and professionally.
