PDP dismisses Rumours of Exiting 2027 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed speculation that it might not field candidates in the 2027 general elections, insisting that ongoing litigations affecting some of its internal processes do not pose any threat to its ability to contest the polls. Party officials clarified that the controversy surrounding the governorship primary in Ekiti State, which was nullified by a Federal High Court due to irregularities in delegate lists, is a legal issue currently before the Court of Appeal and has no bearing on the PDP’s national electoral participation. They pointed out that the party recently submitted candidate names for the Abuja Area Councils election, which were duly accepted and rectified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demonstrating the PDP’s institutional capacity to engage in electoral processes despite the litigation. PDP spokespersons emphasised that rumours of an election exit are unfounded and possibly designed to undermine confidence in the party’s readiness for 2027, urging members and the public to focus on substantive campaign and organisational reforms.
