A House of Representatives committee has formally declared Dangote modular refineries strategic national assets, recognising their significance to national energy security and industrialisation. The declaration followed presentations on the refineries’ capacity, crude-processing plans and potential to stabilise domestic fuel supply and support downstream industries.
Lawmakers said the designation will guide parliamentary oversight and may shape future policy measures, including protection protocols, incentives for local content and frameworks for community engagement. The committee urged all stakeholders — labour unions, operators and regulators — to work together to preserve continuous operations and maximise local economic benefits.
The panel also announced plans for routine inspections and recommended enhanced security cooperation with agencies to safeguard installations. Members stressed the need for contingency arrangements to limit disruptions from labour disputes or supply chain shocks.
