House of Representatives leaders have intervened in the standoff between labour union Pengassan and the operators of Dangote Refinery, urging both sides to pursue immediate dialogue to prevent escalation and protect national fuel supplies. The Reps’ move follows warnings that prolonged industrial action could have widespread economic consequences.
Parliamentary leadership called for an immediate cessation of confrontational measures and proposed that neutral federal conciliators mediate outstanding disputes over redundancy, redeployment and workers’ welfare. Lawmakers emphasised the refinery’s strategic importance and urged the federal government to use established industrial-relations mechanisms to achieve a fair and durable settlement.
The Reps also signalled readiness to hold public hearings to illuminate the issues and to recommend legislative or budgetary support where necessary. Both Pengassan and refinery officials were invited to provide full briefings to the House to inform future oversight actions.
