Super Eagles struggle to score with Osimhen and Lookman, Coach Chelle explains why

Assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi Chelle, has explained the team’s recent scoring challenges, despite boasting some of Africa’s most lethal forwards, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Gift Orban.

Speaking during a media session in Abuja, Chelle said the team’s style of play and ongoing tactical adjustments are aimed at building fluidity rather than overreliance on individual brilliance. “This team is not built around one player — it’s about the group and the philosophy,” he said.

According to Chelle, the integration of multiple attacking options has sometimes disrupted chemistry in the final third, but efforts are ongoing to balance creativity and precision. “When you have players like Osimhen and Lookman, the expectation is goals. But football has evolved; it’s more about the system working together,” he added.

Chelle also revealed that the technical bench is experimenting with new formations to adapt to the dynamic nature of opponents. “We are working on quicker transitions, better spacing, and timing of runs. The goals will come — it’s just a matter of execution.”

Sports commentators, however, say Nigeria’s failure to convert clear chances in recent matches has raised questions about coordination in attack, particularly when both Osimhen and Lookman start together. The coaching crew insists confidence remains high as the team prepares for crucial World Cup playoff fixtures.
