President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the appointment taking effect from August 27, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Enitan will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
A native of Osun State, Enitan is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
He has spent seven years and seven months as a Permanent Secretary, serving in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
With his experience across several key government institutions, Enitan is expected to bring extensive knowledge of the operations of the Federal Civil Service to his new role.
President Tinubu commended Walson-Jack for her service to the country, particularly the reforms and innovations recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.
The President also urged Enitan to build on the ongoing reforms while strengthening professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the Civil Service.
Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service to lead a merit-driven, professional, innovative and responsive Civil Service capable of supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and meeting the needs of Nigerians.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and the College of Arts and Science in Ile-Ife before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
