Federal Government of Nigeria, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has ordered a renewed, intensified operation to rescue the remaining 115 students from St. Mary’s Private Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, who remain in captivity following a mass abduction on November 21.
In a statement from the presidency, the release of 100 students was welcomed but Tinubu emphasised that “all the students and other abducted Nigerians across the country must be rescued and brought back home safely.” He charged security agencies (military, police, intelligence) to collaborate with state authorities to ensure swift recovery of the remaining hostages.
The president also reassured parents that both the federal and Niger State governments are working “hand in hand” to reunite kidnapped children with their families pledging enhanced measures to safeguard schools nationwide and prevent future attacks.
The renewed directive comes against a backdrop of growing national outrage over repeated school kidnappings, mounting pressure on security agencies, and rising demands for better protection of students. The government’s response aims to restore confidence and demonstrate commitment to protecting citizens, especially children.
