Fresh divisions have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party as the faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, publicly distanced itself from a political gathering held in Ibadan, Oyo State, involving the Allied Peoples Movement.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee, Jungudo Mohammed, declared that the party had no alliance, coalition, or political agreement with the APM or any other political platform regarding the Ibadan event.

The Wike-backed leadership described claims linking the PDP to the gathering as false, misleading, and unauthorised, insisting that individuals participating in the event were acting without the approval or consent of the party’s recognised leadership.

The faction also accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of attempting to create what it called a false impression of political relevance through alleged alliances and consultations outside the established structure of the PDP.

According to Jungudo Mohammed, the gathering at Mapo Hall in Ibadan was not an alliance meeting but rather a symbolic celebration of Governor Makinde’s alleged movement toward the Allied Peoples Movement.

He further claimed that recent actions by Makinde and his allies have exposed deep divisions within the opposition party and intensified the ongoing leadership crisis that has continued to affect the PDP since the Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 30.

The apex court had nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, ruling that the exercise violated existing court orders restraining the party from proceeding with the convention pending the resolution of internal disputes.

The judgment further worsened the struggle for control of the party between camps loyal to Governor Makinde and those aligned with Nyesom Wike and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The Wike-backed faction maintained that despite the ongoing crisis, the PDP remains united under the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led leadership and is fully prepared for the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, disclosed that legal action has already commenced against some party leaders, including former Senate President Adolphus Wabara and others, over allegations of impersonation and unlawful representation of the party leadership.

Despite the strong accusations from the Wike camp, the Makinde-aligned faction has continued with activities in Ibadan, insisting that its political consultations and alliance discussions are aimed at strengthening opposition politics ahead of the next general elections.

The latest development highlights the deepening internal crisis within the PDP as rival factions continue to battle for legitimacy, influence, and control of the party structure ahead of 2027.
