The Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency has confirmed the evacuation of a crocodile, a python, and a lion cub from the residence of the former Accountant-General of the State, Abdulkadir Abdusalam.
According to the Managing Director of the agency, Alhaji Saidu Gwadabe, the discovery was made during a routine inspection, prompting an immediate deployment of trained wildlife personnel to secure the animals.
The presence of these wild animals in a private residence has sparked public concern and questions around legality and animal safety. The agency has since launched an investigation to determine whether the animals were acquired and kept in compliance with environmental and wildlife regulations.
While Gwadabe did not confirm if the former official would face prosecution, he noted that possession of such dangerous animals without proper permits was a violation of state law. Animal rights activists have since called for transparency and accountability regarding the incident, with some questioning the motive behind keeping exotic wildlife in a residential home.
