The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has declared that 2026 will be a year of visible, measurable infrastructure and social development across Abuja and surrounding environs, tying progress directly to ongoing policy priorities and national reform agendas.
In a New Year message to residents and stakeholders, Wike said the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) plans to complete and commission major projects in key sectors, including education, healthcare, transport and security infrastructure. These initiatives, he emphasised, are meant to transform daily life for residents and ensure development moves beyond plans into tangible impact.
Among projects earmarked for delivery this year are:
Rehabilitated and upgraded road networks and bridges across the Territory;
Modernised schools and health facilities aimed at expanding access to quality social services;
Transportation hubs and judiciary infrastructure to improve mobility and justice administration;
Security installations to strengthen safety and public confidence.
Wike underscored that 2026 is particularly significant as it marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the FCT, describing the milestone as a testament to the resilience and unity of residents. He also called for continued cooperation from the public to support the administration’s work, stressing that public engagement and compliance with regulations will be critical to delivering results.
The minister linked the planned developments to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, asserting that the framework has laid the foundation for strategic growth in the capital territory. With Area Council elections scheduled in the coming weeks and the national general elections on the horizon, Wike also reassured that the FCTA will ensure a peaceful and orderly political environment throughout the year.
