2027: Akpoti-Uduaghan Declares Re-election Bid, Promises Expanded Development Agenda

The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally declared her intention to seek re-election in the 2027 National Assembly elections after obtaining her nomination forms, setting the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in the district.

Speaking during the presentation of her nomination documents, the senator said her decision to run again was anchored on what she described as a “people-driven mandate” built over her current tenure, which she said has focused on service delivery, empowerment programmes, and inclusive development across Kogi Central.

She expressed gratitude to her constituents for their continued support, noting that her legislative journey so far has been shaped by their expectations and aspirations. According to her, the decision to seek a second term is not personal ambition alone, but a continuation of ongoing projects and programmes aimed at improving living standards across communities in the district.

“This is about consolidating what we have started together,” she said, stressing that her representation has been guided by a commitment to grassroots development and responsiveness to community needs.

Since assuming office, Akpoti-Uduaghan has been widely associated with constituency-focused interventions spanning infrastructure development, education support, healthcare outreach, and youth and women empowerment initiatives. These include road rehabilitation efforts in rural communities, distribution of educational materials and scholarships to students, and vocational training schemes designed to reduce unemployment among young people.

In the health sector, she has supported medical outreach programmes targeting underserved communities, providing access to essential healthcare services and medical supplies. Her office has also facilitated periodic health campaigns aimed at addressing preventable diseases and improving maternal health outcomes within the senatorial district.

On the legislative front, the senator has been involved in advocacy efforts focusing on social inclusion, economic empowerment, and improved governance outcomes. She has consistently emphasized the need for equitable development and greater attention to rural communities in national policymaking.

Outlining her vision for a second term, Akpoti-Uduaghan pledged to expand existing programmes and introduce new initiatives aimed at strengthening economic opportunities across Kogi Central. She stated that her next phase of representation would focus on job creation, improved educational infrastructure, enhanced healthcare access, and broader social development.

“The next phase will be about deepening impact,” she said. “We will focus on expanding economic opportunities, strengthening education systems, improving healthcare delivery, and ensuring that every community feels the presence of governance.”

She further assured constituents that her leadership would remain accessible, transparent, and accountable, adding that she intends to continue engaging directly with communities to better understand their needs.

“I will continue to be your voice strong, fearless, and committed to justice, fairness, and development,” she said. “Together, we will build a Kogi Central that works for everyone.”
In a notable personal moment during the event, the senator publicly acknowledged the support of her husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who she said played a significant role in her decision to formally pick up the nomination forms.

She described his gesture as a strong show of belief in her political vision and leadership journey, adding that his support had been instrumental in sustaining her resolve through past political challenges.

According to her, the decision to purchase her nomination form reflected not only personal encouragement but also a shared commitment to public service and national development.
Political observers note that her early declaration places her among the prominent contenders ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly given her visibility and grassroots engagement within Kogi Central.

Analysts also suggest that her campaign is likely to build on her existing record in constituency outreach while seeking to mobilize broader political support across the district.
For many supporters within her constituency, her re-election bid represents continuity in leadership and the possibility of sustaining ongoing development projects already initiated under her tenure.

As the political atmosphere gradually builds ahead of the 2027 general elections, her declaration is expected to further shape early political alignments in Kogi Central, with stakeholders closely watching how the race unfolds in the coming months.
