The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced that the return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims from Saudi Arabia will begin on June 5, 2026, marking the end phase of the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The announcement was made by NAHCON’s Director of Training and Research, Professor Abubakar Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to the Kano State Amirul Hajj, Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, in Makkah.
According to the commission, all logistical, aviation, and administrative arrangements have been concluded in collaboration with Saudi authorities, state pilgrims’ welfare boards, and airline operators to ensure a smooth and orderly return process.
Professor Abubakar explained that the return schedule was carefully designed to avoid congestion at airports, reduce delays, and ensure the comfort, safety, and dignity of pilgrims as they begin their journey back to Nigeria after completing the Hajj rites.
He said NAHCON had strengthened coordination with relevant stakeholders in both Nigeria and Saudi Arabia to ensure seamless operations, adding that this year’s arrangements reflected improved planning compared to previous exercises.
The commission also urged pilgrims to strictly adhere to guidelines regarding luggage limits, travel documentation, and scheduled departure times to avoid disruptions during the airlift process.
Pilgrims were further advised to remain patient and cooperative throughout the return phase, with officials stressing that discipline and compliance would be key to the success of the operation.
The Kano State Amirul Hajj, Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, commended NAHCON for what he described as improved organisation and coordination of the 2026 Hajj operations, particularly in accommodation, transportation, and overall welfare management.
He assured that pilgrims from Kano State would continue to comply with all regulations and cooperate fully with officials to ensure a smooth return to Nigeria.
Dr Abdulkadir also encouraged pilgrims to use their remaining days in the Holy Land to offer prayers for peace, unity, and development in Nigeria, especially in Kano State.
Meanwhile, officials of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board have intensified sensitisation campaigns in Makkah, educating pilgrims on departure procedures, baggage rules, and other essential travel requirements ahead of the return flights.
Many pilgrims have expressed satisfaction with the arrangements put in place, describing the 2026 Hajj experience as well coordinated, while praying for safe journeys and joyful reunions with their families back home.
