The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious logistics and ammunition supplier to bandits and kidnappers, identified as Yau Sule, in a major intelligence-led operation along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed the arrest during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja on Friday, describing it as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal supply networks operating across the North Central region.
According to him, the suspect, who hails from Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, had been on the command’s wanted list since 2023 for allegedly supplying arms and logistics to criminal groups involved in kidnapping and banditry.
He explained that operatives tracked and arrested the suspect on June 2, 2026, while he was travelling along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway following sustained intelligence surveillance and coordinated security operations.
Items recovered from him included 81 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition used for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), reinforcing suspicions of his involvement in arms trafficking to armed groups.
CP Sanusi further revealed that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a wider criminal network that supplies weapons and logistics to bandits operating in Kaduna, Niger State, and some border communities within the FCT.
In a further development, the suspect reportedly led operatives to the arrest of his sister, Maria Sule, who is alleged to also be involved in the supply of ammunition. She is said to be the wife of another wanted bandit, Buhari Shuaibu, who is currently at large and allegedly responsible for multiple attacks on communities across the FCT, Kaduna, and Niger State.
Police authorities alleged that Maria Sule played a supporting role in facilitating the movement of ammunition to armed groups, further strengthening concerns about an organised supply chain sustaining criminal operations in the region.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers during a separate operation carried out by operatives of the VCRU Sector 5 in collaboration with the Zuba Division in Runji village, Gwagwalada Area Council.
The suspects Umar Babangida (25), Adamu Yeti (22), and Yahaya Idris (24), all from Rijana in Kaduna State were arrested following digital forensic analysis and actionable intelligence that led officers to their hideout in the early hours of May 25, 2026.
CP Sanusi added that the arrests followed investigations into viral social media videos showing armed individuals in military camouflage brandishing AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and communication equipment. He said forensic analysis had been launched to trace all persons connected to the footage, with further arrests expected.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring that individuals involved in arms supply, kidnapping, and banditry are brought to justice.
