Niger State is taking another step toward cleaner and more affordable energy, with Governor Umaru Bago exploring a major investment in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure aimed at reducing transportation costs, creating jobs and driving industrial growth.
Governor Bago recently met with representatives of Hiter-Stata Energy Investment Ltd. to discuss plans for developing a comprehensive CNG ecosystem across the state.
The company’s delegation, led by Deputy Managing Director Ezuma Okoronkwo, presented a proposal that includes the construction of CNG mother and daughter stations, vehicle conversion centres and other supporting infrastructure designed to accelerate the adoption of cleaner energy solutions.
According to the proposal, the project is expected to make CNG more accessible to motorists and businesses while providing a cheaper alternative to conventional fuels.
The meeting also focused on possible areas of collaboration between the Niger State Government and Hiter-Stata Energy Investment Ltd. to ensure the successful execution of the project and maximize its economic and social impact.
Governor Bago described the proposed investment as an important milestone in the state’s drive to strengthen its energy sector and attract sustainable investments.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that encourages private sector participation, supports infrastructure development, enhances energy security and improves the quality of life for residents.
Speaking during the engagement, Okoronkwo said the initiative would not only accelerate the adoption of CNG as an alternative transportation fuel but also lower transportation and energy costs, stimulate private sector investment and generate employment opportunities across the state.
He added that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which seeks to expand the use of natural gas as a cleaner and more affordable source of energy while reducing Nigeria’s dependence on traditional fuels.
If implemented, the investment could position Niger State as one of Nigeria’s emerging hubs for clean energy infrastructure, supporting the country’s broader transition toward more sustainable energy solutions.
