Personnel of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics courier and recovered about 21,000 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Cameroon’s Far North Region.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Moussa Goudja, was arrested on August 10, 2026, by personnel of the National Gendarmerie stationed at Hilé-Alifa under Sector 1 of the MNJTF.
According to the Acting Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi-Onyenonachi, the suspect was intercepted during a patrol in the Dougoum Silio area of Logone.
Ammunition hidden in disguised containers
The military said Goudja was found with three containers disguised as petroleum-product containers.
The containers reportedly contained approximately 21,000 rounds of 7.62 × 39mm ammunition, a quantity the military believes was destined for terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was transporting the ammunition to Ambdego when security personnel intercepted him.
He is currently being held by a national security agency as investigations continue.
Major blow to terrorist logistics
The MNJTF described the seizure as a significant disruption to terrorist supply networks in the region.
The Force Commander, Major General S.T. Audu, commended the Cameroonian security forces involved in the operation, saying the interception prevented a major shipment of ammunition from reaching terrorist elements.
The operation, according to the task force, highlights the importance of intelligence-led patrols and cooperation between security agencies operating across the Lake Chad Basin.
MNJTF orders intensified operations
The task force said it would continue strengthening intelligence gathering and cooperation with national security agencies to identify and disrupt terrorist logistics networks.
The Force Commander also directed sectors to intensify patrols and clearance operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and improving security across the Lake Chad Basin.
The latest seizure comes as regional security forces continue efforts to prevent the movement of weapons, ammunition and other supplies to armed groups operating across the area.
