Omotola Reveals Shocking Reality Behind N103m ‘Mother’s Love’ Box Office

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed how much her film Mother’s Love actually generated for its producers after completing its cinema run, offering a rare look at the huge difference between a movie’s box-office gross and the money that eventually reaches producers.

The film reportedly grossed N103.09 million at the cinemas, but Omotola disclosed that only N22.28 million ultimately accrued to the producers after various deductions.

Where did the money go?

According to the actress, the deductions included payments to cinema exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising costs, Value Added Tax (VAT), entertainment tax, withholding tax and other charges associated with theatrical distribution.

She disclosed the figures in a video shared on Instagram while reviewing the performance of the movie.

Omotola said:

“At the end of our run, we had made N103,094,663 after deductions for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising, and value-added tax.”

She added that the amount eventually received by the producers was N22,276,558.

The figures highlight the significant gap between the headline amount reported as a film’s box-office earnings and the money that actually reaches its producers after cinema-related deductions.

The N22.27m was donated

Rather than keeping the proceeds, Omotola revealed that the entire N22.27 million received by the production team was donated to Slum2School Africa, an organisation focused on improving access to education for children in underserved communities.

The donation was part of an earlier commitment by Omotola’s production company, RedHot Concepts, to give 100 per cent of its proceeds from the film’s Nigerian theatrical run to the organisation.

According to Omotola, the distributor, The Nile Entertainment, transferred the N22,276,558 to Slum2School Africa on July 7, 2026.

She said the production team would continue to monitor how the funds are used to ensure they support education for children in underserved communities.

Omotola celebrates first directorial project

Mother’s Love, released nationwide on March 6, marked Omotola’s feature directorial debut.

The film features actors including Olumide Oworu, Noray Nehita, Ifeanyi Kalu, Lilian Afegbai and Nosa Rex.

Omotola described the project as a major milestone and thanked moviegoers, her production team, partners and distributor for supporting the film.

She also indicated that Mother’s Love would not be her final project as a director, promising to continue using her creative work to support humanitarian causes.

For Omotola, the movie’s performance goes beyond its box-office figures. While the reported N103 million gross attracted attention, the actress said the more important outcome was that the N22.27 million actually received by the producers was ultimately channelled into helping children gain access to education.
