The Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, has urged women in the district to turn their numerical strength into political influence and demand accountable leadership through their votes.
Amadi made the call at the annual August Meeting of the Women’s Wing of the Okpulla Amakaohia Development Union (OADU) in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
The candidate praised the women for their contributions to community development, but challenged them to play an even stronger role in determining the quality of political representation in their communities.
Amadi lists challenges facing residents
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Cajetan Duke, Amadi expressed concern over what he described as worsening socioeconomic conditions across communities in Imo State.
He listed poor healthcare delivery, inadequate infrastructure, declining standards in public schools, deteriorating roads, unemployment and economic hardship among the problems affecting residents.
According to him, the challenges are evidence of years of poor representation and misplaced priorities.
Amadi said governments and elected representatives must become more responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens and focus on delivering tangible improvements.
‘Use your votes to demand accountability’
The APP candidate urged women to recognise the power of their collective votes and grassroots networks.
He encouraged them to participate actively in elections and carefully assess candidates before deciding who deserves their support.
Amadi said women should use their electoral influence to demand leaders who would prioritise development, accountability and the welfare of their constituents.
He maintained that meaningful representation should be measured by concrete improvements in areas such as healthcare, education, roads, employment and community infrastructure—not simply by political promises.
