The American Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) have called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, citing multiple court rulings and international directives declaring his detention illegal.
In an open letter signed by AVID President Dr. Sylvester Onyia and Secretary Dr. Godson Obiagwu, the group referenced Nigerian court decisions and a UN Human Rights Council directive that condemned Kanu’s extraordinary rendition from Kenya and his continued detention.
AVID warned that defying these rulings undermines Nigeria’s judiciary, damages its global reputation, and fuels unrest in the Southeast. The group urged Tinubu to act in the interest of justice and national stability, emphasizing that resolving Kanu’s case is now a political decision within the President’s authority.
