SENATE CALLS FOR REDEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS TO BATTLE FRESH BOKO HARAM ATTACKS

Amid a surge in Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria’s North-East, the Senate has urged the military high command to urgently redeploy troops and advanced equipment to Borno and Yobe states. The call followed a motion by Senate Chief Whip Tahir Munguno, who warned that recent gains in the region were being reversed due to renewed insurgent assaults.
Munguno cited the killing of over a dozen soldiers in Marte, Monguno LGA, and a separate assault on Gajiram, Nganzai LGA. He blamed the military’s shift of focus to the North-West as partly responsible, noting that terrorists have resumed using drones and IEDs to devastating effect. The Senate also tasked its Army and Air Force Committees with monitoring compliance, calling for strategic reassessment to protect civilians and key infrastructure.
