MOTHER OF SLAIN INFLUENCER MARKS 22ND MONTH OF DAUGHTER’S DEATH, DEMANDS JUSTICE
In a rather sad development, Nearly two years after the brutal murder of her daughter, Mrs. Cordelia Okonye continues to mourn—and demand justice. Her daughter, Augusta Onuwabhagbe, was tragically killed by her boyfriend, Benjamin Best, popularly known as Killaboi, in 2023. In a chilling online post, Mrs. Okonye marked the 22-month anniversary of her daughter’s death with haunting words, declaring that Augusta’s spirit was still fighting and would not rest until justice was served.
“22 months today Benjamin killed you. You are still fighting because you said that if anyone kill you, you will kill your own back. He must join you, my baby,” she wrote. The case had sent shockwaves through the nation when Killaboi, after confessing to the murder online, fled Nigeria to evade justice. He was eventually apprehended in Sierra Leone in October 2023. Following months of international coordination involving INTERPOL and Qatari authorities, he was extradited back to Nigeria in April 2025 to face charges.
Legal proceedings are ongoing, but Mrs. Okonye’s powerful message has rekindled public interest in the case and highlighted the lingering pain felt by the victim’s family. Human rights groups have called for an expedited trial and maximum penalties if he is convicted.
