Port Harcourt — Barely hours after Governor Siminalayi Fubara resumed office, the Rivers State House of Assembly issued a strong demand for him to present a fresh list of commissioners and a new state budget.
Lawmakers said the period of emergency rule created a vacuum in governance that now requires urgent corrective measures. They insisted that to restore order and credibility, the executive arm must resubmit its cabinet nominees for vetting and present an updated budget that reflects the current realities of the state.
Assembly members further stressed that oversight would be strengthened to prevent future abuse of power and to ensure the smooth running of government institutions.
Analysts say the demand signals that the House intends to assert itself more forcefully in the state’s political structure following months of tension. Supporters of the governor, however, argue that the demand could reopen old wounds if not handled carefully, urging both arms of government to prioritize reconciliation for the benefit of the people.
