Prominent anti-corruption campaigner Oby Ezekwesili has called on the Senate leadership to formally restore the rights, privileges, and full station to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following her recent reinstatement after a six-month suspension.
In a public letter, Ezekwesili argued that the suspension was arbitrary and deprived Senator Natasha of her legislative functions, denying her constituents representation. She urged the Senate President to issue a resolution affirming Natasha’s status and compensate for lost privileges during the suspension period.
The letter sparked debate in political and civil society circles about legislative discipline, fairness, and the role of internal parliamentary mechanisms. Some observers believe Ezekwesili’s intervention could push the Senate to correct procedural anomalies.
Senate sources, however, say restoring privileges is subject to internal rules and may require formal motion, with opposition from lawmakers who favored the earlier suspension.
