Gov Eno commends security agencies, commissions internal roads

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has lauded security agencies in the state for their unwavering efforts in maintaining peace, law, and order, highlighting their role in creating a conducive environment for sustainable development.

The commendation came during the commissioning of 1.4km internal roads at the State Police Command headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, and at the 2025 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Department of State Services in Uyo. Governor Eno acknowledged the risks security personnel take in performing their duties and expressed appreciation for their collaboration with other agencies.

The governor approved contracts for the lighting of police stations across the state to enhance operational efficiency. He also announced plans for the construction of a Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, commending the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for granting approval for the project.

Governor Eno recognised officers for their outstanding service, including the Officer-in-Charge of the SWAT Unit, Kokoette Thompson Ebong, who was named Crime Buster of the Year at the 2024 Nigeria Police Force Awards. Additionally, he pledged to relocate the State Fire Service under the Occupational Safety Department to improve efficiency.

At the DSS office, Governor Eno approved the acquisition of two new Toyota Hilux vehicles to support the agency in its operations. State Police Commissioner Baba Mohammed Azare commended the governor for prioritising security and emphasised the importance of the newly constructed internal roads as strategic assets to enhance mobility, response times, and overall operational effectiveness.

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, revealed that the roads were constructed to high-quality standards and are expected to last at least 20 years before requiring rehabilitation. Key highlights of the events included the official commissioning of the internal roads and the switching on of Christmas lights at the DSS facility.

The events were attended by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, members of the State Executive Council, political leaders, captains of industry, government functionaries, and members of the public.
