The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Umo Bassey Eno, has approved a proposed budget size of ₦1.39 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, focusing on consolidating the ARISE Agenda through agricultural growth, infrastructure expansion, social inclusion, and economic diversification.
According to the communiqué issued after the November 5, 2025 meeting, the Council resolved that the budget, themed around deepening dividends of good governance, would prioritize completion of ongoing flagship projects, job creation through MSME support, enhanced transportation, and expanded healthcare and education access.
The Council also ratified an upward review of the total project cost for the Aviation Village within the Victor Attah International Airport, covering dualized access roads, drainage, perimeter fencing, and an internal residential estate.
Additionally, the Council approved a consultancy agreement with MediaGuru LLC, Dubai, for the design and integration of new broadcast systems for the Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC). It further directed immediate deployment of re-engaged retired health workers and approved work commencement on eight General Hospitals and 29 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.
Governor Eno also approved ₦4.15 billion for the recapitalization of Anchor Insurance Limited, aimed at recovering state assets and strengthening financial institutions.
The Council’s session ended with tributes to outgoing Head of Civil Service Elder Effiong Essien for meritorious service, and condolences to the family of the late Reverend Emmanuel Ossom.
