The Senior Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom Governor on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Mrs. Jayne Ufot, has pledged increased collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote health and safety awareness among young Nigerians.
During a visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Nsit Atai, Ufot described the scheme as a vital institution for nurturing responsible citizens and highlighted HSE reforms under the ARISE Agenda, including upgraded primary healthcare centres, strengthened emergency response, and the recruitment of 100 Safety Officers.
She urged corps members to join HSE-related Community Development Service groups and adopt practices that support public health, environmental protection, and personal safety.
The visit also featured lectures on hazard awareness, environmental hygiene, and waste management, led by HSE team members including Prof. Akaninyene Ekong and Prof. Comfort Etuk.
NYSC State Coordinator, Sam Pepple, commended the partnership, noting its value in enriching corps members’ training. Scholarships for HSE certification were awarded to three corps members, alongside an inspection of camp facilities and the donation of a First Aid Kit.
