APC denies REPORTS of replacing SHETTIMA as TINUBU’s RUNNING MATE ahead of 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected circulating reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima might be replaced as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the upcoming 2027 general election. The party labelled the speculations as unfounded and aimed at creating confusion within the polity.

In a statement issued on Monday 26th January by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described the claims as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” emphasising that there is no plan to drop Shettima from the ticket. The party urged media organisations to desist from amplifying what it called misleading reports from “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance” that are designed to stir division.

Morka also underscored that under Nigeria’s current electoral laws, the ban on political campaign activities remains in force, adding that speculation about the 2027 presidential ticket is premature and distracts from governance priorities. The party reiterated its focus on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which it says is driving economic reforms and improving living conditions.

Senior APC figures have also publicly cautioned against the idea of replacing Shettima, warning that altering the party’s ticket could have adverse political consequences for the ruling party’s prospects in 2027.
