Armed Robbers Invade ATBU Female Hostel, Cart Away Phones and Valuables

Panic erupted at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Gubi Campus, Bauchi State, after armed hoodlums invaded a female hostel in the early hours of Monday, attacking students and stealing mobile phones and other valuables.

The attackers reportedly struck at about **2:00 a.m.**, armed with machetes, knives and other dangerous weapons. Witnesses said they forced their way into several hostel rooms and terrorized students before escaping with numerous personal belongings.

An eyewitness who spoke anonymously said the hoodlums entered **more than ten rooms** and stole **over 50 mobile phones**, along with other valuable items belonging to the students.

She said several students were assaulted during the robbery, with one female student suffering serious injuries after refusing to surrender her phone.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns about security at the university’s Gubi Campus, which students say is surrounded by nearby communities and thick vegetation that could provide cover for criminals.

The university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, **Zailani Bappa**, confirmed the attack and said the Vice-Chancellor, **Prof. Ibrahim Hassan Garba**, visited the affected hostel to sympathise with the victims and assure them that the university is taking steps to improve security.

Bappa said the incident had been reported to the police, who have deployed security personnel to the campus, taken statements from the affected students and launched an investigation.

The robbery has since generated widespread concern among students and members of the university community, with many calling for increased security around the female hostel and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.

Students have also urged the university management to provide additional security personnel and support victims who lost phones and other valuables during the incident.
